Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Today was a good friend's birthday.  He wasn't here in body to celebrate it.

Happy Birthday Eric

Driftess Coffee Table Book

Driftless Streams

A photographic journey

I must admit I did not have a clue what this thing was when I first saw it.  Outhouse came to mind.

I took a closer look at it.  I admired the rock work.  The top was the most interesting.  There was a hole in the top.  The stonework had moss on it.  The new looking wooden door looked out of place.

The crank handle on the side even confused me more.  This was private property I had permission to be on and any further examination I felt would be intruding.

I stepped back and examined it from a distance and it dawned upon me.  The surrounding trees looked scorched.  It was a light bulb moment.

It was a smokehouse.
