50 Years Ago This November

He left this earth at 40 years old.  He left behind 6 children and a devoted wife.  She was 39 years old when he went away.  She is 89 years old now.

This photo was taken in 1958 when Ma and Dad moved to Gays Mills from Milwaukee.  They moved out of the big city that was filled with crime to a small town in Southwestern Wisconsin to raise their children in a safe environment.

It is Mother's Day tomorrow.

Have you called your mother lately?

Have you told her you love her lately?

When was the last time you visited her?

Have you thanked her for being such a good mom?

Where would you be without her?

Where?

Taking Photos Of Browns Alone

There are so many things to think about when you have just landed that nice photo worthy brown.

First off is unhooking the trout.  Then you gently place it back in your net and make sure it is submerged and not labored.

You never seem to have enough hands.  Depending on the season you can stick the handle of your net into the mud bank and keep the net bag in the water.

Your camera is typically secured in your vest in a case.

There is the lay the trout on the net photo which typically fails and is detrimental to the trout's slime coat and they won't hold still.

If you have practiced with a timer there is the glory shot.  Which typically doesn't work either.

It comes down to the extended arm shot which you should take quickly and put the fish immediately in the water to revive before releasing.

No death grip on that trophy. Hang on to fish farther back on body to avoid injuring organs near the head.

Then there is the problem of the extended arm shot.  If the trout is too large you won't get all of it in the photo.

Such a problem I will take every outing.

2017 Already A Banner Year

Lots of season to go!!!

4 Net Morning

Went out for 2 hours this morning.  It looked like rain in the forecast and I looked at my favorite water and it was a little dirty. Thought I better get out there before it was too dirty to fish.

Put my favorite dirty water spinner on in a size 9.

Second cast

Put my LDH Net to good use.

5 minutes later.

Used my LDH Net again

Used my LDH Net again

was happy to use my net again.

At full arm stretch I could not get entire trout in photo.

Not a great numbers day but made it up with size.

Thought it was time to go home.

Opener Weekend

Kickapoo River 2 feet higher than typical. suckers and red horse spawning. Threw some stick baits....got really excited on a big fish hook up and noticed no head shaking and staying on the bottom. Six minutes later I got a look at a giant carp i had snagged in back fin. It took me another three minutes to net. Carp don't get photos taken of them. Next cast I hooked a big fat sucker. took a photo of it not the carp...not sure why. ....carp was in 20 pound range. arm got tired from fighting it.

The sucker came in like a stick.
