Johnny Jump Up

Viola tricolor 


It flowers from April to September
 
My mother-in-law Marjie Jurgensen had some Johnny Jump Ups blooming in her yard a week ago.  Wikipedia says they are wildflowers from Europe that are typically blooming from April to September.  These tricolor babies might have a little problem with 6-9 inches of snow in the forecast for tomorrow.
Also known as viola, wild pansy and heart’s ease, the johnny jump up is actually a relative of the pansy. The difference between johnny jump ups and pansies is mostly one of size. Pansies have much larger flowers, although they look very similar
