Epic Battle

26 inch fatty female brown caught right where this thermal feeds in on a black bugger with plastic legs. The angler was lucky he was in the water for the extended battle. It ran upstream and down. Was epic battle.  Happened about 15 years ago.

Small Stream Browns Are My Favorite

The butter brown bellies and the amazing spectrum of colors are my weakness.

Keep those brook trout.  They are beautiful but they are about as dumb as a box of rocks.  You can catch them on a bare hook almost.

When a brown gets a little bigger, it is actually an accomplishment to fool them and hook and land them in tight quarters.

I May Be A Little Crazy But I Am NOT Stupid

opening weekend trout fishing looks like a wash for me. Going to be too cold during the overnights and the nine inches of snow in the last 24 hours will make walking treacherous and foolhardy. I enjoy fishing for trout but my knees and back would suffer if I went out.

Opening Day Outlook

The two days prior to opener will be the coldest days of the winter so far.  That may have a lock jaw effect on the trout.

Don't hit the water before 10am and pick a short stretch to fish.


NEW YEAR’S EVE (THURSDAY):
Variably cloudy and seasonably cold.
Low: 14
High: 25
NEW YEAR’S DAY (FRIDAY):
Partly sunny and cold.
Low: 7
High: 22
SATURDAY:
Variably cloudy, breezy and seasonably cold.
Low: 10
High: 27
SUNDAY:
Mostly sunny and a little milder.
Low: 16
High: 35

Scout the day before around 10am to see what time the shell ice comes off.


Target slow deep water with a feed funnel near to it.

Think about where there are springs upstream of your target area.


Sunday afternoon looks better then Saturday.

Remember big, deep and slow.
