Opening Day Outlook

The two days prior to opener will be the coldest days of the winter so far.  That may have a lock jaw effect on the trout.

Don't hit the water before 10am and pick a short stretch to fish.

NEW YEAR’S EVE (THURSDAY):
Variably cloudy and seasonably cold.
Low: 14
High: 25
NEW YEAR’S DAY (FRIDAY):
Partly sunny and cold.
Low: 7
High: 22
SATURDAY:
Variably cloudy, breezy and seasonably cold.
Low: 10
High: 27
SUNDAY:
Mostly sunny and a little milder.
Low: 16
High: 35

Scout the day before around 10am to see what time the shell ice comes off.

Target slow deep water with a feed funnel near to it.

Think about where there are springs upstream of your target area.

Sunday afternoon looks better then Saturday.

Remember big, deep and slow.

  1. How do you keep the ice off the guides? Dip in the water? Good luck! I'm so looking forward to April 2nd. Opening day in Pa. Post pictures if you go Len.
